Neutrogena All Day Makeup Tutorial - Back to School Tutorial

This “Back to School - All Day Look” post was sponsored by the Collective Bias Social Fabric Community.
#AllDayLook and #CollectiveBias

As I am preparing for the second year of my graduate school, I started reminiscing about back to school planning and shopping.  My sister and I used to plan our outfits and makeup routine for the week (and of course, fell off the wagon only the second day when we realized we’d have to wake up at 5 AM to actually stick to our lofty plans).

For grad school, I still have to think ahead for every day, but my routine has somewhat changed. Many grad school courses are later in the day, and my classmates and I often go out after class. Additionally, I always attend art gallery and show openings which also happen in the evenings.  Because of my schedule during the school year, I must transition my day makeup look to an evening appropriate makeup look.  For this tutorial, I’m using all Neutrogena products to create a subtle, brown smokey eye look and flawless skin finish that lasts well through countless hours of lectures, openings, and New York City adventures.

Products used include: Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture with Sunscreen SPF15, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends Pure Blush and Bronzer, Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF20, Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Soft Raspberry, Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara, and Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Spiced Chocolate.  My skin responds well to Neutrogena (aka no blemishes) so these affordable products work perfectly together to create a beautiful look with no fuss (and yes, the tutorial below uses only the few listed products above which is also great for a school budget).

Step 1: Prep skin and moisturize with the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture with Sunscreen SPF15.  The Oil Free moisturizer hydrates skin while also acting as a skin primer.

Step 2: Apply the Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF20 - this foundation is full coverage, long lasting, and provides protection with SPF20.

Step 3: Using the illuminating Healthy Skin Blends Pure Blush and Bronzer, add a bit of subtle color to your complexion.

Step 4: Because I like multi-use products (and my wallet doesn’t complain, either), I use the Healthy Skin Blends Bronzer to add a wash of bronze color to my eyelids.

Step 5: Using the Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Spiced Chocolate, create a cat eyeliner to emphasize your eyes (the Spiced Chocolate color is not too harsh for everyday, and can be smudged or re-drawn to transition to a smokey eye finish).  Finish the eye look with the Neutrogena Healthy Volume mascara to add dimension to your lashes (without flaking or clumping).

Step 6: Add a pop of color to your all day makeup routine with the Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Soft Raspberry (aside the deliciously cute shade, the Color Stick provides hydration and protects lips).

Running around in between classes and to New York art openings doesn’t leave enough time for makeup touch-ups - thankfully, in just six easy steps, Neutrogena helps create the perfect all day (and all evening) makeup look.

Event begins August 24th, limited quantities available. Check with your local Target store for Beauty Concierge day and times.

CHIC STUDIOS 5 Year Anniversary Event Coverage

Turning a passion into a career is an understandably difficult task - it takes confidence, investment, time, and perseverance.  But ultimately, if you choose a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life (that’s not a Pretty Squared quote, but we fully stand by it!).  CHIC STUDIOS in New York City does just that - a unique makeup artistry school, set in the middle of the Manhattan bustle, CHIC STUDIOS provides professional training to aspiring and established makeup artists.

My sister and I had the pleasure of attending the CHIC STUDIOS 5 Year Anniversary where we celebrated makeup education with like-minded individuals (and we all did it in style, sporting smokey eyes and ruby lips in the middle of the afternoon).  CHIC STUDIOS welcomed students, bloggers, and instructors to experience the quintessential New York, modern studio space and pristine classrooms.  We both had the opportunity to chat with the CHIC STUDIOS instructors, learn about offered courses, and simply revel in  the experience (with a side of sparkling pink cake pops, of course).

The CHIC instructors also revealed three whimsical looks that made us wish pink cherry blossoms and geometric patterns  were appropriate street attire (the models looked like works of art and the application techniques were exquisitely detailed).

Like all birthday celebrations, the CHIC 5 Year Anniversary was spent in good company with great treats and even better makeup.  We had a lot of fun and it was lovely catching up with a few of our favorites bloggers from The Fashion Beauty Junkie, Diva Makeup Queen, Barbie Baby MUA, LoveRoxie, and Miss Yanyi.

Thank you to CHIC STUDIOS and all the generous sponsors for a wonderful event! To learn more about the CHIC STUDIOS courses, be sure to visit CHIC STUDIOS and reach out to any of the representatives - everyone’s fabulous and ready to help turn your love of makeup into a successful career!

Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara Review - Revlon Flash Your Lash

Mascaras are like a box full of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get.  As the most sold item in any beauty collection (it’s true, research it!), we sure love trying our mascaras.  And not surprisingly, companies introduce millions and millions of mascara variations every few years (umm, don’t research that number but you get the idea).  It seems there are always new mascara releases and each one offers something different and promises new results.  With Revlon Bold Lacquer, the chocolate turned out to be delicious but with unique flavors (disclaimer not needed, but don’t eat the Revlon Bold Lacquer).

Part of the Grow Luscious line, the Revlon Bold Lacquer (c/o) is meant to create glossy volume and length. With a cylinder-shaped, large wand, the mascara delivers beautiful length - after only two coats, my lashes appeared soft, fluttery, and all around lovely.  My lashes still looked natural but better.  And to make things better, unlike other drugstore mascaras I’ve tried, this Revlon mascara did not smudge or create fallout at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, the Bold Lacquer does not really create much volume - combined with the wet formula and the shape of the wand, the final look is defined with separate lashes (as opposed to voluminous, spidery lashes).  However, as I tend to gravitate toward less dramatic makeup that is work appropriate, the Bold Lacquer is a new product I quickly added to my routine.

The Revlon Bold Lacquer is a perfect pick for everyday makeup.  Long lasting, beautifully pigmented, and naturally lengthening, this affordable Revlon mascara is a delicious pick.

Physicians Formula Mineral Airbrushing Powder Kit Review

I wanted to share with you a newly discovered product that has quickly become my go-to in my summer daily foundation routine.  I was looking for a light powder foundation for the hot summer days, and well, a blush and bronzer were a bonus I wasn’t going to reject.  The Physicians Formula Mineral Airbrushing Powder Kit has been around for a little while but I have recently found mine at Walmart for $15.  Knowing that Physicians Formula tends to retail for higher prices (ahem, over $10 each), I grabbed this quickly as I thought it was a great value.

The Physicians Formula Mineral Airbrushing Powder Kit in the Light color, includes a face powder in Creamy Natural, a bronzer in Light Bronze and a blush in Natural. The powders are advertised as having SPF 30 (which is perfect for summer), talc free, hypoallergenic, fragrance free and non-comedogenic, which is great for acne prone skin.  All the powders are finely milled and all have a beautiful sheen, which I think gives off a very youthful glow and airbrushed finish.  That aspect of this Physicians Formula kit, along with the great pigmentation and effortless blendability, is something I’ve really enjoyed - my skin looks perfectly highlighted all the time.

I recommend applying the face powder with a big fluffy brush, and at most apply two layers, with a second layer on top of any areas that you would like any additional coverage.  Coverage wise, the Physicians Formula powder is light to medium coverage.  I’ve tried this face powder without any face primer and noticed that it emphasized my pores, so I tried it with a pore erasing primer (been loving the Maybelline Baby Skin primer) and it looked beautiful and lasted me all day.  All the powders last very long on my skin (at least 8 hrs and more) and they keep their pigmentation.  The Light Bronzer fit my skin tone perfectly, and the Natural blush is a pink rose color that looks natural but definitely adds a fresh pop of color to your complexion.

I would strongly recommend you grab the Physicians Formula Mineral Airbrushing Powder kit and try these beautiful powders, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the healthy glow they’ll give your skin.  The colors are beautifully curated and my foundation routine is simple now and feels lighter than wearing liquid foundation – I apply the primer, some under eye concealer, swirl the powders on and I’m done.  On the flip side, if you’re looking for a matte finish and are looking for a fuller coverage foundation, I would pass on this kit.

Let me know if you’ve tried this yourself and how you like it, and what’s the way you apply it.  Do you have any other recommendations for the perfect powder foundation for summer?  Please leave them them in the comments, as we all appreciate any makeup tips to deal with this hot summer weather.
