CAUTION UPDATE: PLEASE READ BELOW FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE POP BEAUTY GLOSS - DO NOT USE THE GLOSS AS INGREDIENTS USED ARE UNSAFE.
It’s Ipsy time again! For February, the month of love (and self pampering), Ipsy included a lot of lovely pink products that should help us with dates or girls’ night out.
The Zoya polish in Odette was a wonderful addition to this bag (keep in mind this full size retails for about $8 so why are you not subscribed to Ipsy yet!). This is a newly released color from Zoya Spring 2014 Naturel Collection, and Zoya Odette is a taupey purple grey shade. Unfortunately, purple colors don’t look the best with my warm skin tone because purples bring out yellows by default - either way, this Zoya shade is a nice color to transition from winter into spring. The formula was opaque in two coats and application is easy as I love the brush size on Zoya’s polishes.
Pacifica Hawaiian Guava Body Butter is a pretty large tube, and I was happy to have this included because at this time of year since you can’t have enough lotions. The Hawaiian Guava body butter has a strong yet nice tropical scent that reminds me of grapefruit and mangoes. I’ve been applying this to my hands only as it might be too much of an olfactory experience if applied over the whole body. This product is a body butter and I can tell it provides really nice moisture without taking too long to absorb into the skin.
POP Beauty Plump Pout Lipgloss in Fuschia Freesia is a deluxe sample size - beautifully packaged and sleek, this gloss is perfect to throw in your bag for touch ups throughout the day. POPbeauty markets this product as a gloss with the wear of a stain, full of nourishing ingredients for your lips. This POP Beauty formula is very comfortable and feels light on the lips (not sticky at all), while packing a pretty punch of cool fuchsia pink. However, I didn’t notice any staining and the wear time is relatively short; also, the smell of this gloss is quite off-putting as it’s similar to a burning plastic chemical scent. I have been wearing the POP Beauty Pout gloss and enjoying it, but I’m not sure I would repurchase because of its smell (I’ll take vanilla cupcakes over burnt tire any day).
Eyetini Eye Cordial Cream Shadow Tint & Base in Spiced Rum (that was a mouthful) is a gorgeous liquid metallic gold cream shadow packaged in the form of a lipgloss. I found it very easy to apply using the doe foot applicator and it can be easily smudged out all over the lid. After I sheered it out a bit, the shade pulled more coppery than gold on me, but it was still a beautiful color. Eyetini Spiced Rum is very smooth, has fine shimmer, and does not crease. At $18 full size, it is quite pricey but it’s a great quality product that will last you a while. I was surprised at how much I like this product and I’m considering purchasing the Champagne shade in the future.
Lastly, Ipsy included a pack of JCat Eyelashes and Glue (EL20). These are a set of dramatic lashes with a relatively thin band, and the glue is tinted black (which I think is a pretty cool move on their part). I have relatively long eyelashes and when I add fake eyelashes, you know I’m going for an over the top dramatic look suited for special occasions. That being said, those occasions don’t arise that often in my life as a grad student (aside from maybe Halloween) and even though this set retails for $3.99, I probably won’t repurchase additional pairs.
Overall, I was pleased with this month’s Ipsy bag as the value was great, but I would’ve wanted to receive different colors in the polish and the gloss. I was also really hoping to try the City Color Matte Blush and I am slightly disappointed to receive my second pair of lashes from Ipsy (but now I’m just being spoiled because Ipsy delivers every time on value). I am really happy to have been introduced to the Eyetini shadow product, as they’ve only included nail polishes from this brand in past Ipsy bags. Let me know in the comments what you received in your Ipsy bag this month, I am curious on what you thought of your make up goodies!
