Ipsy November Glam Bag 2013

November 21, 2020

November's Ipsy Glam Bag arrived recently, and I couldn't wait to share with you what I received. This month's bag was titled "Glam It Up" and I could definitely see me coming up with a glittery, lush look for New Years Eve and the holidays.  This November Ipsy was a generous selection of 5 full sized products and one 'sample' sized product (Pixi's Bronzer which in my opinion could have passed for a full size too).  The bag was a really cute and fun gold snake skin with a hot pink zipper - not the best bag in terms of its quality, but the cute colors and wristlet feature make up for that.

Now, for a quick over look and first impression of the products - the Kiss lashes (#03) were a great set for a beginner lash girl like me.  The Kiss product included two sets of natural lashes, an applicator, and lash glue.  The Nailtini "Caviar Cocktail" polish is a metallic chrome grey that is suited perfectly for the fall months.  The Be A Bombshell cosmetics "Shameless" twist up lip crayon is a pink-ish berry shade with silver glitter - it swatches opaque in two coats, feels comfortable on the lips, and the shade is quite lovely and unique.

The Pixi Beauty Bronzer in "Subtly Suntouched" is a perfect matte bronzer with subtle golden shimmer - this bronzer will suit fair skin tones and will help warm up the complexion. The Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil in "Amethyst" might be my favorite product in Ipsy's "Glam It Up Bag".  The Starlooks pencil is very soft, pigmented, and the color is a gorgeous metallic silver purple.  Lastly, I also received the EM Cosmetics Waterliner in "Grey." I wasn't too happy with having another grey eyeliner included, but these two products turned out to be quite different.  The Em Waterliner gives off a darker, olive toned grey color and seems to be longer lasting due to a tougher, dry consistency.  I was glad I had the chance to try a full size EM Cosmetics product, but I can't say it's my favorite eyeliner formula.

Because of all the recent Ipsy variations, I'm curious what your thoughts are on these products and what you received in your own Ipsy November Glam Bag. Also, let me know in the comments if you have any recommendations on how to wear the grey eye liner pencils (since I now have two!).  If you would like to sign up for this subscription service ($10/month), visit Ipsy here (affiliate link).  I am loving the Ipsy's subscription so far, and I really recommend it for its value and wide range of products (I even convinced my sister to try it!).

Best Fall Lipsticks and Favorite Fall Lip Products

November 17, 2020

You don't have to spend a fortune to have the best of fall lip products. The cold season means different formulas and different colors, but with a few smart purchases, you can get your pout ready for fall. There are no rules, really, on what shades one can wear, but I find that neon orange and bright matte pink just don't feel the same without sunny skies and warm weather. The best fall lip products are functional and also colorful - I tend to wear lip balms more often and gravitate towards darker shades. I also don't wear as much lip gloss because wind, hair, and sticky gloss are usually a recipe for a hot-mess-look.

Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Charm and Clinique Chubby Stick in Heaping Hazlenut provide the ideal balance between color and moisture.  Because these are not full coverage pencil lip balms, I can easily re-apply throughout the day and not worry about color overload.  Around this time of the year, I tend to use up my stash of Revlon Lip Butters (swatches here) and Maybelline Baby Lips (swatches here) - in fact, I just purchased the Maybelline medicated Baby Lips Dr. Rescue. For fall lipstick shades, I've been loving YSL Rouge Volupte and Revlon Super Lustrous (I just go on Amazon shopping sprees where lip sticks are a whopping 0.99 cents). As long as some kind of moisture is involved, shade like dark berry, red wine stain, and rich purples are my favorites.

For some days (aka torrential rain, metro delays, and late to work), putting on lipstick is the least of my problems - however, I still have to take care and protect against the freezing cold. I love the balms from the Disney EOS limited edition collection and Smith's Rosebud Salve (for only $6.00 at Sephora, this salve was one of my best purchases).

So, if you do the math and wisely choose a lip balm, a tinted pencil, and a lipstick, your fall lip product collection is ready for wear.

New Revlon Highlighting Blushes

November 12, 2020

There has always been a beauty debate as to how drugstore cosmetics compare to high-end cosmetics - much like all 'great debates' there are arguments, counter-arguments, examples, anecdotes, and loyalties to be shared.  With the arrival of the new highlighting palettes from the Cheek Boutique collection, Revlon is making its own statement (and they're quite persuasive!).

The Revlon Cheek Boutique display, which I've located at Bed Bath Beyond, is a blush lover's dream - from soft shades to cream finishes, Revlon has affordable and wonderful options for everyone. The Revlon Highlighting Palettes are available in three colors of Peach Glow, Rose Glow, and Bronze Glow. Packaged in a sleek and lightweight container, the highlighting blushes rival some of the very best high end options (ahem, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks).  In fact, after trying these highlighting blushes, I prefer Revlon for everyday as the shimmer is more subdued and work appropriate.

Revlon Peach Glow Highlight Blush (001) is a yellow based, golden bronze color that can be built up in intensity (bottom: Revlon Highlighting Palette swatch). Revlon Rose Glow Highlight Blush (0002) is a lovely rose shade with pink undertones (middle: Revlon Highlighting Palette swatch).  I've been wearing these since I purchased them and the blush stays on for approximately eight hours (no smudging or patches). The shimmer in these palettes is also perfect for highlighting without making you look like a glitzy disco ball of glitter - in fact, Revlon Highlighting blushes differ from Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks because Revlon is closer to a blush than a highlighter.  Both Revlon Peach Glow and Revlon Rose Glow are highly pigmented - the texture is very soft, almost powdery, so both products are easy to blend. Overall, I can confidently recommend purchasing the Revlon Highlighting palettes - quality product, lovely shades, and just the right amount of shimmer are well worth the investment.

Because no one can resist the beauty of coral, no matter what season, I also purchased the Revlon Classy Coral Blush (010).  Revlon Classy Coral is a cool-toned coral that comes packaged with a small brush and mirror (top: Revlon Powder Blush swatch).  This particular blush was not exactly pigmented and was somewhat difficult to apply smoothly - I enjoyed that the color translates to a lovely, muted flush, but I wish the formula was softer.  The Revlon powder blush release has several other shades so I recommend picking your favorite (not many drugstore brands have such wide color range).

Finding an affordable alternative to a popular product is often difficult - thankfully, Revlon made it easier with the introduction of their Cheek Boutique products.  No matter what side you stand on in the 'great debate," be sure to add these beautiful shimmer blushes to your makeup collection.

Blush Accessories and Blush Inspiration

November 6, 2020

If someone was to ask what my favorite color is, I'd answer with "blush" (and would probably feel a bit silly having to explain).  Blush accessories tend to complement every occasion and every outfit (the difficulty comes in finding just the right shade!).  For blush beauty products, I love being inspired by the range in the YSL Volupte lipsticks line.  A mix of light coral, pastel pink, and white, the color "blush" is the perfect touch of lovely.

Products Featured: Forever 21 Matte Rose Studs (priced only $2.00 here), J. Crew Scalloped Ballet Flats (on sale here), Sophie Structured Satchel (priced $53.00 here), YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick (shade Peach Passion), Anne Klein Blush Ceramic Watch (Anne Klein has a whole collection of blush watches at Macy's).

Let us know your favorite 'no-color' color and the more original, the better!

Londontown Lakur Review and Swatches

November 3, 2020

For a girl that changes her nail polish quite a bit, I have to be mindful of taking care of my nails.  Nail polish chemicals, filling, and polish remover can have a negative impact on overall nail health. Thankfully, Londontown is coming to the rescue with beautiful colors and nourishing formulas. The founder of Londontown created a nail polish and nail care line that utilizes the restorative properties of flower oil, chamomile, cucumber, and other essential oils and vitamin extracts.  Londontown Lakur is five-free (no formaldehyde, no toulene, no DBP, no resin, no camphor), and the line is also vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free.  Although priced a bit high at $22.00, the Londontown nail polishes have a wide selection of colors that are classic.  For example, I wear a lot of pink throughout the week, and I find it's worth investing in a pink polish that won't be as harmful to my nails.

Londontown Lakur "To the Queen, with love" (c/o) is a beautiful deep purple with blue undertones. The color applies easily and smoothly, and becomes opaque within two applications.  Londontown Lakur "Waterloo Sunset" (c/o) is the perfect ballerina, baby-pink.  "Waterloo Sunset" also applies easily and has strong pigmentation.  Price was still an issue for me until I wore the lakurs - the formula was great, the shine was long lasting, and there was no cracking or chipping for at least four days. Londontown has a whole line of Kur products dedicated to nail care. Londontown Kur Accelerating Drying Oil (c/o), which comes with a pipette applicator, is meant to help seal shine and rush drying time. Because I ended up using my own fast drying top coat, the Kur drying oil was more helpful to apply around the dry cuticles.  Overall, it's obvious the founder put a lot of thought in Londontown products - the packaging is minimalist and informational, and the polishes are great quality and come in a variety of shades.

If you wear nail polish often (and who doesn't nowadays!), I recommend picking up at least one or two go-to shades from Londontown - pretty colors and healthy nails are always in style.
