You don’t have to spend a fortune to have the best of fall lip products. The cold season means different formulas and different colors, but with a few smart purchases, you can get your pout ready for fall. There are no rules, really, on what shades one can wear, but I find that neon orange and bright matte pink just don’t feel the same without sunny skies and warm weather. The best fall lip products are functional and also colorful - I tend to wear lip balms more often and gravitate towards darker shades. I also don’t wear as much lip gloss because wind, hair, and sticky gloss are usually a recipe for a hot-mess-look.
Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Charm and Clinique Chubby Stick in Heaping Hazlenut provide the ideal balance between color and moisture. Because these are not full coverage pencil lip balms, I can easily re-apply throughout the day and not worry about color overload. Around this time of the year, I tend to use up my stash of Revlon Lip Butters (swatches here) and Maybelline Baby Lips (swatches here) - in fact, I just purchased the Maybelline medicated Baby Lips Dr. Rescue. For fall lipstick shades, I’ve been loving YSL Rouge Volupte and Revlon Super Lustrous (I just go on Amazon shopping sprees where lip sticks are a whopping 0.99 cents). As long as some kind of moisture is involved, shade like dark berry, red wine stain, and rich purples are my favorites.
For some days (aka torrential rain, metro delays, and late to work), putting on lipstick is the least of my problems - however, I still have to take care and protect against the freezing cold. I love the balms from the Disney EOS limited edition collection and Smith’s Rosebud Salve (for only $6.00 at Sephora, this salve was one of my best purchases).
So, if you do the math and wisely choose a lip balm, a tinted pencil, and a lipstick, your fall lip product collection is ready for wear.
