| The Tarte gel stick is wet and glossy to achieve a brightening effect |
Pros: The color of this blush is a lovely mix between a red and pink - think summer berries or barely ripe cherries. The color should suit all skin tones as it really does give a flush look (see below swatch). The gel consistency of the blush is also perfect for achieving the glowing, dewy skin look without being greasy or watery. Tarte blushes do have a slight scent that I actually enjoy and while Tarte Flush is citrus-y, the smell disappears soon after application. I did do my research a bit before writing this review, and have noticed several girls with sensitive skin who had reactions to the product so I recommend swatching first on your hand. The blush did not break out my skin or irritate it so the actual natural ingredients were great for my skin.
Cons: Hmm, notice how short my pros were? Aside from the color, everything else is a headache. I wish I could take the flush color and bright look of the blush and transfer it to a powder or another gel blush. Tarte Flush Cheek Stain does not last long at all - approximately an hour or so before it fades completely - and it actually fades in patches so that's another big no-no. The biggest issue I had with this blush (as I am sure I'll have with all other gel stick Tarte blushes) is the difficult application. The blush applies like a lipstick and is difficult to blend in so I end up with two doll-like circles on my cheek. I actually had to research tips to apply (as a beauty blogger nonetheless haha!) because I kept thinking I was not putting it on correctly. Tarte recommends that you apply the Cheek Stain over a powdered, finished cheek - so after you apply foundation and setting powder. This did help a bit but longevity was still short and the blush still rubbed all over my face. If you also do contouring or highlighting, I'm assuming you'll have even more problems with this cheek stain. In conclusion, the Tarte Flush Cheek Stain is difficult to blend in evenly, does not stay on for more than an hour, and has little color pay off.
Grade: 2.5/5

| Despite the dark tube color, Tarte Flush comes off as a pinkish red (swatch taken in light to show the wet shine); also notice how difficult it is to build up the color because streaks form |

I haven't used this, but I have used the Benefit Benetint cheek stain. I find it very difficult to apply to a finished face. Instead, for easy blending, I apply after moisturizing or foundation- something to help move the stain around to blend.
ReplyDeleteI also swatched some Benetint in Sephora and had the same opinion so I passed but will have to try this, it looks like the face has to really be a "blank canvas" before applying so I can come in and even the color. thank you for your comment! :)
DeleteI was actually interested to read your review because Tarte Flush is my all time favorite blush, believe it or not! I have very pale skin and the color really livens it up. I also have extremely dry skin, which is why I think I don't have any problems with it not lasting long enough. On me, it usually lasts all day, especially in winter. (On really hot summer days I switch to Smashbox O Glow because it's more sheer and light.) I also don't use foundation and powder- just Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer- so maybe if I wore foundation I would notice a problem with the foundation smearing when I put the blush on. Interesting to read someone else's (completely different) take on it though!
ReplyDeleteI do think it livens up the skin (perfect way of saying it haha!) but I wish it stayed like that throughout.
DeleteOhh some good ideas, true I haven't just tried it with a bb cream or tinted moisturizer base. Maybe because of all the layers - foundation, concelear, powder, the blush doesn't apply correctly - will give it a try, thanks for the recommendation!
I'm surprised Tarte recommends applying this over a powdered cheek considering creams go patchy over powders. They blend best over bare skin or foundation xx
ReplyDeleteTarte also recommends over foundation but it didn't work for me as the foundation was smearing haha hot mess I'll give it a try over a more "blank canvas" thanks for your comment!
DeleteVery pretty color, surprised this product didn't workout.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes carry it in my purse to reapply just because the color is pretty. Thank you for all your lovely comments Chantel, you always comment on our posts, makes us feel special!
DeleteI have this and I usually use this as a base and top it up with a similar color blush. Totally agree with you with the staying power of this. It does not stay.

oh, great idea! I have a similar powdered blush color so I'll try that as well - a way of setting it :)
DeleteWow, sorry this didn't work out for you too well! I have a tiny of True Love, and I had one called Tipsy. i liked them both, but I don't think they are worth the full price!
