Brazen Berry in #905; had to really look for this collection before finding it at Kmart

Mackenzie's Notes:
I was excited to find out that Maybelline was releasing some vibrant lipstick shades as part of their permanent collection. They are formulated with honey nectar and feel moisturizing on the lips, without feeling sticky (think a mix between Maybelline Baby Lips and Revlon Lip Butters). I tend to wear bright lip colors regularly but usually applied as a stain that gives a pop of color without being too garish. I already have oranges, fuchsia pinks, bubble gum pinks and bright orange reds in my collection, but I have been looking for a true purple lip color for a while now. Once I saw the new Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids line, I knew I had to try "Brazen Berry", especially with spring and summer around the corner! This is as close as I have gotten to a true purple in a drugstore lipstick line, and I appreciate that; the color is a purple with fuschia undertones, perfectly wearable and lovely on warm skin undertones.
I finally spotted Brazen Berry #905 at a local Kmart priced at approximately $5.50 and decided to pick it up. Having loved this color, I am thinking about picking up Vibrant Mandarin and Vivid Rose in the near future.

It was hard to capture the neon orange cap, but it's very pretty and fresh on my vanity

Very sleek packaging; the lipstick has a sturdy base and thin twist up body
Pros: The color is really beautiful and I applaud Maybelline for coming out with such a unique shade. It's a very wearable purple that I believe lots of people can wear if they wish. The formula is very moisturizing and not sticky (not as sticky as Revlon Lip Butters); my lips didn't dry out over the day. The lasting ability of this lipstick is impressive, as it lasted about 6 hours on my lips, after which it left behind a very demure and even stain. Packaging is very cute, sleek and efficient. The Vivid collection is a great value, highly pigmented, comfortable and original lipsticks for under $6.
Cons: You have to apply at least two coats of lipstick to get the true color of the lipstick. That is perfectly acceptable but since I like to wear bright lipsticks as stains to work, I wish this was pigmented enough so I could do that. Also, while the formula is very comfortable, I wish this came in a matter finish since the color is already so intense; I prefer a higher gloss on nuder shades. Also, these shades keep selling out, so grab one when you get a chance ladies!
Grade: 5/5

I picked up Hot Plum, Shocking Coral and Fuchsia Flash. Hot Plum is my favorite so fa, and I'm really wanting to try this Brazen Berry color as well. Looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteOo those sound great! Hot plum seems to be a favorite, and if you like that one, brazen berry is a touch more purple towards blue, so it will probably look great on you :) I say go for it haha I was also contemplating vivid rose as it seems quite unique but trying to take it easy here lol
DeleteI love how it goes with your nails :) Gorgeous color x
ReplyDeleteOh my that is a beautiful colour! I wished they'd matched the lids to the colours though x
ReplyDeleteWe got vivids in our country but not this color :(( (only 5 shades)
ReplyDeleteSo angry, they always eliminate purples, my favs.

ahh that's a bummer! I feel like oranges reds and pinks are quite easy to come by while purples aren't, so it's a real shame they left it out. But maybe there Hot plum could come close? It's slightly more fuschia :)
Deletewow this is gorgeous, I love it xx
ReplyDeleteWow it's so bright! It looks great on you but I don't think I'd be brave enough to wear it out x

Sounds great will do! and yes I reallllly wanted to buy Mac's Heroin but that was a limited edition :( also, I've convinced myself that this is a more wearable color anyway :P
Deletei'm tempted to get this shade since i'm a sucker for purple, and i really want to try out the vivid line. is there any problems with the color bleeding off??
ReplyDeletekfclovesyou.blogspot.com
If you're into purples, I say GO FOR IT! haha it's such a beautiful shade! There are no problems with the color bleeding since it is a pretty creamy, glossy formula, so I feel it holds together pretty well. I say try it and if you do happen to experience any major bleeding try a lip liner or attempt to return it as drugstores now have a wonderful and understanding return policy. Let me know how it goes! :)
DeleteSuch a pretty colour!!! Not sure if I could pull it off though!
